I just got my permit can I start driving?
Your permit is not valid until you begin driver training, your instructor will sign your permit to validate it.
How long do I need to have my permit before I can take my driving test?
You must have your permit for 6 months and be 16 and have completed at least 6 hours of behind the wheel training with a licensed instructor.
How long do you have to wait before retaking a California driver test if you fail the first time?
2 weeks is how long you must wait if you fail the California DMV drivers license test. If you fail 3 times then you will have to start the application process all over again. Retake fees do apply.
Are there walk-in appointments for taking a drive test in California?
No there are not. To take your drive test you must schedule an appointment ahead of time through the DMV’s online portal.
Can a 16 year old driver have passengers in California?
A 16 year old cannot transport passengers under 20 years old, unless accompanied by a California-licensed parent or guardian, a California-licensed driver 25 years or older, or a licensed or certified driving instructor.
